Tips for an effective FAQ web page

FAQ stands for ‘frequently-asked questions’ and on a website, it is a page that gives quick answers to questions about your products or services.

It is one of the most important pages on a website but often forgotten or not given enough attention.

Why is FAQ page so important?

  • It saves time by answering customers questions

  • It shows you are customer focused

  • It helps convert sales as it provides information that can help a customer make a decision.

  • It helps with your SEO (as it adds relevant content that can be a result for a search engine enquiry)

FAQ page content

One of the questions I’m always asked is ‘how do you know which questions to answer?’

I suggest that you address the most common questions customers have about your products, or services.

Make sure you include real questions and from customers point of view as this will deliver the best and most effective database of questions & answers.

FAQ page tips:

  • Keep answers short

  • Use ‘yes’ & ‘no’ at the start of each question

  • Fully answer the question with no links to another page or website if possible.

  • Use your customers language & be personal.

  • Update the FAQ page often so it is up to date.

FAQ page design

Some tips on how to design your FAQ page to make it easy for customers to find information.

  • Organize the questions by categories

  • Use headings or thumbnails (linking to dedicated topic pages pages) for larger websites.

  • Add options to contact customer support for more information.

  • Include a search bar

A few FAQ design options

  • Columns

  • Scrolling page (best for pages with not much content)

  • Accordion design (expand answer)

  • FAQ videos (with transcript)

In conclusion, if you do not have an FAQ page, set one up and include the real question that your customers are asking. Make it easy to find and easy to understand, it will not only improve your customer service but might help with your SEO and conversions.
