How does Pinterest help with SEO?

I love Pinterest – I use it all the time both for work (design trends & inspiration) as well as personal – home décor, recipes and ideas.

I set up an account for Webby a few years ago but neglected it – did not even link to it from my site as I did not feel it will generate business.

Recently I did a Google search for my business name (as I often do) and to my surprise, my Pinterest account appeared very high on page 1…. This was great but my boards were so old with outdated folio that I had to quickly update and make my Pinterest account relevant and on brand.

This got me thinking about the connection between Pinterest and SEO and after a bit of research I found that for some industries it is super important to be present & active on Pinterest as not only it is a great search tool but will also help with your website ranking (if set up correctly).

What is Pinterest?

Think of it as a library of scrapbook – a place to store ideas and inspiration.

As a business on Pinterest, you share content on Pinterest boards. Boards are a selection of ‘Pins’ which like bookmarks that same online content.

You can have as many boards as you want, organised by categories to make it easy for your followers to find the content they’re looking for.

How can Pinterest help with SEO?

Pinterest is one of the largest website traffic drivers in the world - it is an excellent tool that can help increase links back to your website which means more traffic.

It is in fact more effective at directing traffic back to a website than any other social media platform as users need to click on the pin to go to your site to view full content - unlike Instagram - every pin includes a link.  This makes it easy to lead it back to the source of the image.

This feature allows you to share both written and visual content and direct users back to your website in the process. For example, a pinned recipe will only include a photo and name – to read the recipe user must click to your site.

As your pins get more popular, it increases the number of links pointing back to your website and boosts its visibility for Google. Over time, this can lead to higher rankings on Google search results pages.

In conclusion, you can bring a large number of new visitors to your website by posting images of your products on Pinterest.

In this example, Blade Creative’s Pinterest Prolife is listed 3rd on 1st page for business name search.

Don’t forget - Pinterest is it’s own search engine.

Pinterest if a creative tool so popular with creatives, fashion, arts & crafts, D.I.Y., cooking & baking & event / wedding planning.

With a huge database of pins it is a search engine that will help you introduce your business website or blog to a whole new audience.

It’s a great channel to engage and educate customers as it is full with tutorials, infographics, recipes, and ideas – all can link back to your website.
