Season's Greetings to everyone!
Some of you who attended the Kingston Business Women's Network luncheon in November may remember my Webby News Box. This idea, came to me the night before so I quickly put together this box from what I had at home - therefore it looked a bit 'daggy' but it worked! I received 50 business cards - this is 50 new newsletter readers! The guest speaker, Yvonne Adele (Ideas Culture) complimented me on my idea and motivated me to get some more of my ideas into action....so I put my thinking hat on and came up with a few exiting ideas for 2010....details in my next newsletter. This is a 'quick' newsletter just before the holidays- some advice regarding 'Domain Names Scams', new Google gadgets and some new websites recently launched. Webby will take a break for the holidays and will come back with a new looking website and some new exiting products for 2010. Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas and a great New Year, |

Domain Names Scams |
After two recent incidents involving Domain Names I decided to write this
segment as I believe many of you will find this information useful. I received a letter last week from a company called Domain Renewal Service saying my domain name is about to expire and that I should act now and renew it with them. They had all my details and asked for my credit card....As I did not register my domain name with them, I went to Google and found they are a scam...So if you receive a letter regarding your Domain Name - always contact your Domain Name register or hosting supplier to check. If you are a Webby client, feel free to contact me and ask me but in general all re-newel requests should always come from Webby. The second incident happened to a client of mine who wanted to purchase a .com domain name for her business. Turns out that this name was already taken. Since .com domain names can be purchased by anyone (no need for an ABN as in .com.au names), there are companies that buy which ever name they want and sell them later for a profit. For this client the charge for the.com domain name (which is HER business name) was US$1,888! (generally a .com name is AU$55 for 2 years...) So, if you have an idea for a .com name or have a .com.au name and might need a .com name later on, my advise is if it is available, buy it now! If you are not sure if the name is available, contact Webby and we can help you. |

New Google Gadgets to add to your website |
Two new Google gadgets caught my attention
lately - Google Translate & Google Search. Google Translate - a tool you can add to your website and it will translate the relevant page to your chosen language. If you know you have visitors to your site from non English speaking background - this is a great tool for you. You can view a sample on this website: www.mentoneps.vic.edu.au. Google Search - If you have a website with a large number of pages, this will help your visitors find what they need. The gadget is added to your home page and the results are displayed as Google search results but FOR YOUR WEBSITE. for more information, please contact me. |
