Google's 'Caffeine'

What is it?
Google recently launched a new web indexing system called Caffeine. According to Google, Caffeine provided 50 percent fresher results for web searches than their last index.
Caffeine analyses the web in small portions and updates Google's search index on a continuous basis, globally.
As new pages, or new information on existing pages are found, they are added straight to the index. That means you can find fresher information than ever before—no matter when, or where, it was published.

What does it mean to your website?
With the new system, updates are more important than ever. The 'fresher' the website, the better the ranking.
To keep relevant (or 'fresh') it is recommended to update your website regularly. A few ideas for regular content update:
newsletters If you send newsletters regularly - upload them to your website.
articles: It is a good idea to write articles on a subject that relates to your business - this not only will show your expertise but will also attract new potential clients. Articles help to make your website 'sticky' so people come back for more. Set a goal to write one article per month and think 'outside the box' for ideas. If your business is related to weddings you can write about anything to do with weddings even if its not your specific service.
special offers: if you have a special offers page, upload a new special each month.
Call Webby to discuss your options and ideas and we will help you set it up!

DIY Websites - Why use a professional copywriter?
The right copy can make your website 'sing' where a bad copy can spoil it. No matter how good the design is -  a poorly written website will not hold attention for long. Online readers 'scan', rather than read, so your copy needs to be well structured.
Businesses with a complex product or service will benefit from professional copy most. A professional copywriter can take complex concepts and make them easy to read.

The most important page to look at is your home page. The home page is like the front of your shop it is the first impression. It takes on average 8 seconds for visitors to decide whether to stay on your website and read more, or leave.
Think of the home page as a magazine cover - it is there to prompt visitors to areas on your site that might interest them and to showcase your products and services.

For more information, or to ask Webby to review your home page please contact us. We can also refer you to some local copywriters.

Facebook for business: do's & don'ts
If you have a Facebook business fan page or are planning to set one up, it is important to consider a few things:
page set up Set up your page professionally - add information about your business, upload relevant photos, link to your website or relevant websites. Use your logo for your profile picture and always use a square image as a rectangular picture will be automatically cropped (for posts) to a square and you might lose an important section of your photo.
connect connect with your fans - remember Facebook is about engaging with your customers - not about advertising. Post relevant information and always respond to comments.
be professional Check your page regularly for fans comments and remove in-appropriate ones immediately (and in some cases report to Facebook). Remember - this is your business page, not your personal page - what you say here reflects on your business. Some of your personal friends might be also 'fans' and comment on your posts - always respond in a business manner as everyone else can see the comments. In some cases, if your friends are making comments which can effect your image (in a personal manner), politely ask them not to.
do not spam Do not 'spam' your fans. Remember less is more - make your posts regular to keep in contact but not too often as fans can 'hide' your page and it becomes irrelevant. Make sure your posts are to the point and interesting.
analyse Read your weekly Facebook email to see how your page is performing.
