On-Line Business Directories

I recently searched for the phone number for my local Australia Post outlet and the first two results in Google were via Hot Frog and True Local directories. Only the third was Australia Post Website.
This shows how registering your business with many relevant business directories is important and will help improve your SEO.
Even if your business comes up first as the directory listing rather than your actual site - no harm done as your business is still up there and people can find you and link to your site from there.
Online directories often rank very well. Keep an eye out for on-line directories when you surf the net - if a Google search results in a business via a  directory, take note and see if you can list your business on this directory as well. Many on-line directories offer a free basic listing  and charge for more details. You can decide later on who to invest in by looking at your web statistics and see if there is a directory that stands out as a referring site.

Internet Browsers Update

Internet Explorer, Firefox & Chrome released updates to their browsers recently -  Internet Explorer 9 (March 2011), Firefox 4.0 (March 2011) Chrome11 (May 2011). Check if you are using the latest browser and consider upgrading to the new version.

YouTube and your website

You probably already know how important Social Media is for businesses today. Not only as a communication tool but also as links to your website to help with SEO. Links from Facebook, YouTube and blog websites rank very well on search engines. I'm often asked "what should I post on Facebook or how should I use YouTube?" In this newsletter, I put together some ideas for YouTube usage and integration to your website.

Tutorials: If you are for example in craft or baking film some basic tutorials (how to ice a cupcake, how to knit...); this will not only help with your SEO but will get people interested in what you offer and will want to attend classes. Tutorials can also be screen shots - for example a tutorial I'm working on ' how to set up a Facebook business page'.

Club/Studio: Film students at the studio to show new customers what you do and for existing members things they might want to practice at home.

Professional Service/Consultant: Film your self at work - for example a celebrant preforming a wedding ceremony, part of a presentation/seminar for a consultant etc.. This will provide examples of your work. Anything you can think of that you can offer will be good to use.
It is all about sharing your knowledge and building a relationship with your customers or potential customers.

There are a few ways to link your YouTube Channel to your website: URL link, embedded video or channel link. See an example on this website - Splendid Ceremonies for a channel link on home page.
